Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21)Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21)
About the program
Primary Schools for the 21st Century was a $2.98 billion investment to build or upgrade large-scale infrastructure such as libraries, halls and classrooms and other buildings in every public primary school in NSW.
All eligible schools, including special schools and K-12 schools, received a funding boost of between $250,000 and $3 million, depending on the number of students enrolled.
The program delivered long-term infrastructure solutions so that students, teachers and the wider community have access to high quality resources to support learning and improve the quality and diversity of learning environments.
What were the program priorities?
- Building new halls and libraries.
- Replacing demountables with permanent buildings to support long-term enrolments.
- Refurbishing existing facilities.
How were projects delivered?
The Building the Education Revolution Program Office appointed seven Managing Contractors to manage the delivery of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century Program across NSW.
Managing Contractors were appointed in April 2009 via competitive tender and selected for their capacity to meet the program’s tight timeframes, deliver value for money and provide local employment opportunities. All projects had to meet the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution Guidelines.
The amount of P21 funding spent in NSW public schools was maximised to help achieve the best educational outcomes, the best value for money and an immediate response to the Australian Government’s economic stimulus plan.
